Thursday ride, not to Cleveleys!

Fish and chip ride 02/07/2026

Lancaster and South Lakes Cycle Touring Club

Our ride on Thursday 2nd July was our annual trip to the flesh pots of Cleveleys to savour their delicious fish and chips(we also had a cruise lined up on the way home!)

Gathering at the Boot and Shoe were a number of Pensioners In Lycra On Cycles(PILOC’s !). Leaving the Boot and Shoe for our coffee stop we went through the University, Galgate and Street before turning right at Harris End cross roads and descending rapidly through Scorton to Gubberforth Bridge and the rough narrow lane called Green Lane East then Green Lane West enabling us to cross the A6 at the traffic lights to go down Croston Barn Lane to the coffee stop at Bridge 64 cafe.

At coffee I decided to ring the ferry to see if was sailing as we were experiencing very strong winds unfortunately I was told the sailings for today were cancelled.

We decided to cancel Cleveleys and opted for Pilling instead.

After coffee we set off going onto Nateby to turn right going along Cartmel Lane, Black Lane, Island Lane, Garstang Road, A588 and Taylor’s Lane to our lunch stop at the village hall.

After a refreshing lunch we left Pilling along Backsands Lane to join the busy A588 before turn right down Gulf Lane. Eventually we had to rejoin the A588 which we used right through to Conder Green where we took the old railway line back home.

The ride wasn’t what I had planned but the weather made us adapt our plans so instead of the 50 miles anticipated I only managed 33 but considering the strength of the wind a reasonable ride, thanks everybody.

Anyone who is interested in joining us can find information about our regular club rides on Thursdays and Sundays on our website:  www.ctclancaster.org.uk.
