Thursday Ride to Goosnargh on March 19 2026
/Alternative ride on 19th March
Lancaster and South Lakes Cycle Touring Club
This was supposed to be an alternative ride for the elderly and infirm but the main ride(over Jubilee Tower and the Trough) had to be cancelled. However gone are the days when some of us could cycle up to Jubilee Tower(it’s bad enough running up to it!)
We gathered at the Boot and Shoe heading for our coffee stop at Garstang Arts. On the way we went through the Uni and Galgate. At Harris End cross roads we turned right to drop down and flashed through Scorton so we could cross the Wyre at Gubberford bridge then it was the rough Green Lane East (with a comfortable hedge!!) before a smooth respite to Garstang Arts.
Much satisfied we left the Arts centre and negotiated the market in Garstang before we turned left at the Brockholes Arms.
Using Stubbins Lane, Lodge Lane, Ducketts Lane then Lydiate Lane it enabled us to turn left at the end to climb Bourne Brow so we could use Carron Lane to get us to Inglewhite. In Inglewhite we took Silk Mill Lane then left onto Langley Lane before a quick right on Curwen Lane then Mill Lane which eventually dropped us down into Goosnargh passing the welcoming notice saying “beware elderly people ahead!”(did they know we were coming?).
After a welcoming break in the Stags Head we retraced our route through the village to go down Goosnargh Lane then left onto Langley Lane and right onto Whittingham Lane.
After crossing what used to be the bottle neck in Broughton village we flew along Woodplumpton Lane then Newsham Hall Lane before joining Woodplumpton Road for a short spell. A right turn then took us onto Hollowforth Lane. At the end we turned left onto Eaves Lane then a right after about a mile onto Benson’s Lane. After joining Moss Lane we came to St. Michael’s Road which enabled us to cross the busy A6 and go up Bilsborrow Lane to reach Lydiate Lane.
Homeward bound now we retraced our outward route until we went right onto Smithy Lane which took us eventually to Sandholme Lane, Parkhead Lane, Delph Lane, Hazelhead Lane, Gubberford Lane and our coffee stop at Daisy Clough.
However two riders who were severely knackered went via Dimples Lane and Garstang and met up at Daisy Clough
After a welcomed break with tired legs we decided after such a good day to take the easy way home so it was Hollins Lane, Whams Lane, Stoney Lane, Galgate and the Uni.
A very pleasant ride just suitable for old codgers! (Methuselah was nearly as old as some of them!!)
Anyone who is interested in joining us can find information about our regular club rides on Thursdays and Sundays on our website: www.ctclancaster.
