Sunday ride to Holgates, Silverdale
/CTC Ride Report Sunday 30th Nov. 2025
Twelve hardy riders from Lancaster CTC made their way to Nether Kellet to have a pre-ride natter before heading off into the icy lanes of north Lancashire and a welcome coffee and scone at Sizergh Castle tea room. The twelve quickly resolved into two groups as they progressed with trepidation over the increasingly icy tarmac to Capernwray, Priest Hutton, Burton and Holme.
The Howgills glinted in the frosty sunlight as they becamevisible from the lanes behind Dallam Tower. Heversham and Levens village showed signs of pre-Christmas preparedness, and we slowed down to enjoy the fine panorama of the Lakeland peaks from the Brigsteer road. The climb over the hill to Sizergh put some heat into our bodies, and we were greeted by the seasonal decorations in Sizergh grounds.
After an extended break indoors at the café and the injection of some warmth into fingers and toes, we set off to Silverdale ,having gained a further two club members.
The bright sun had made the lanes a little less icy, but interfered with our vision heading south through Hincasterand paying a second visit to Heversham. This time our route took us to the west across the mossland towards Dallam bridge and Carr Bank.
Lunch was enjoyed at Holgates café in Silverdale before riders dispersed and headed for home, well in advance of nightfall but alas not rainfall, which began just after Carnforth.
A mid winter ride enjoyed mainly in bright sunshine, with over 40 miles ‘awheel’, and 50 for the Lancaster riders. New riders are welcome to join us. Take a look at our website www.ctclancaster.org.uk
