Thursday ride to Knott End
/Alternative to car assisted
Lancaster and South Lakes Cycle Touring Club
This was suggested for those of us who don’t have a car(and don’t drive!)
Started at Boot and Shoe at the usual time to go through Uni and Galgate. At Five Lane ends we turned down Whams Lane to cross the A6 to Cockerham Road. Using Wallace Lane, Winder Lane and Ratcliffe Wharf Lane we went along the busy Pork Road to turn right down School Lane. After going through Winmarleigh and over Cogie Hill we approached Pilling but turned right down Horse Park Lane so we could ride along Backsands Lane and Taylor’s Lane to coffee(and custard!!).
After coffee we went through the village and down Lancaster Road, Bradshaw Lane then Union Lane. At the end of Union Lane a left took us onto Back Lane before a right onto Clay Gap Lane then another right onto Sowerby Carr Lane.
Once over the busy main road we were on Brickhouse Lane then Highgate Lane. A stiff climb now into Preesall. Main roads all the way now into Knott End. As the ferry cafe has now reopened we decided to give it a go.
After being refreshed with much nattering we set off with a following wind and decided to use the sea wall into Pilling. After a short stretch on the busy road we turned right to go along Gulf Lane to Cockerham.
We used the main road now and turned left to go into Glasson Dock to enjoy the lovely smiles(and another coffee).
Now it was the lovely surface of the old railway line and at the picnic spot we split up some carrying on some heading for Boot and Shoe and home.
An excellent ride, yes it was flat but to pedal that mileage on ancient legs was good.
